The only head of Broccoli that I saw in the garden, and what a beauty! (insert jealousy pang) Quite a feat, considering the spring we had. I'm pretty sure it was in Gil's plot, but it may have been Bill & Donna's. Sometimes I get lost behind the camera. So...what was your secret? Did you plant these in the fall and over-winter, or were they planted in the spring? Any special treatment?
A few days later, the head was harvested, and now little side shoots are forming.

Sal's plot, showing much love and promise.
The first pea, spotted in Kelly's plot.
An almost ready to harvest Purple Kohlrabi found in Patty's plot.
Garlic scapes!!! One of my favorite harvests in the garden. These are in Tom's plot. I was inspecting my garlic today for any sign of them, and was surprised to see a whole row of Tom's in scape. They must be a different variety from the others. Any idea which kind Tom? They sure are a beautiful creation of nature.
These look just about ready to clip off, to make sure that the energy the plant is taking in goes to producing the bulb, and not to the flower and eventually seed. Clip these off before they get too woody and tough, chop them in 3" pieces, and eat them as you would cook green beans or asparagus. Make Garlic Scape pesto. I think a future post will be dedicated to Garlic scapes!
